Description
An exceptionally substantial circular copper platter or shallow basin fitted with a pair of angular carrying handles, with a broad raised rim and a deep, gently dished interior. The heavy-gauge construction and considerable weight give the piece a distinctly utilitarian yet sculptural character.
The surface displays a richly mottled brown, russet and golden patina with extensive natural oxidation. The two handles are attached directly to the raised perimeter, allowing the piece to be carried or displayed horizontally.
Condition
Very heavy, with extensive natural surface oxidation and patina and numerous areas of discoloration consistent with age and use; surface marks and scratches. Handles appear securely attached; no obvious major structural failure.
