Unidentified Asian Wall-Mounted Architectural Ceramic Object

An unusual small ceramic object of flattened, roughly oval form with a pronounced projecting central body and a distinctive band of raised geometric ornament encircling its circumference. The central band consists of repeated diamond and interlocking motifs in dark brown against a pale, heavily textured ceramic ground with scattered raised and incised marks. The reverse is flat and incorporates two small perforations, and the upper portion features a pronounced open notch or aperture; the body appears to have been constructed specifically to accommodate or conceal an opening. The shallow depth, flattened reverse and mounting perforations suggest a specialised mounted or architectural function rather than a conventional vessel.
